MOHLABA LAND CLAIM DELAYS

Description

Over 500 Tzaneen households submitted a land claim to the Office of the Regional Land Claims Commission dating back to 1998. IN December 2013, claimants received a letter from the Director-Operations outlining the remaining stages of the claim and the dates thereof: 31 January 2014-Finalization of verification, 31 March 2014-Presentation of Offer and 30 April 2014-Signing of settlement agreements respectively. When the 31st January and 31st March meetings weren't honoured by
government officials, the claimants wrote to the Land Claims Commission to enquire. The response from the Commission lacks any element of commitment as was the case before in terms of time frames and action plans which will lead to settlement of the claim. The Director wrote "Please be patient with us".
